Xylitol is sugar alcohol which acts as a natural sweetener found naturally in many fruits and vegetables such as yellow plums, strawberries, raspberries, cauliflower, lettuce and spinach. Our body also produces 5-15 grams of xylitol per day through normal metabolism of carbohydrates. Xylitol has been safely used and FDA approved for over 40 years.
The Xylitol we use is derived from birch and beech wood which are naturally rich in xylan a type of plant fiber known as hemicellulose.
Adults and children can tolerate normal amounts (30-40 grams) without gastrointestinal side effects.
Xylitol helps reduce the calorie count and sugar content. It’s a sweetener often used in ice cream, baked goods, chewing gum and toothpaste. It tastes as sweet as sugar, yet contains only 60% of the calories. It also has a lower glycemic index than sugar and can help those with weight management, diabetes, and tooth decay.
Like chocolate, pets cannot process Xylitol like humans.
On occasion, during distribution or in the store, a container may have a chance to thaw and then refreeze, causing its ingredients to separate, or develop freezer burn and ice crystals. At ProYo we maintain strict temperature control of our products, however once it leaves our facility we do not have control of the temperature at which the product is stored. If your ProYo had “freezer burn” it could be an issue with the store freezer. If this happens to you, please return it to the store that you purchased it from, along with the receipt, and let the manager know. With the proof of purchase, they should be able to exchange it or refund your money.
Yes, all of our products are pasteurized in production and are safe for everyone to enjoy.
